Hit-N-Run Session

Didn’t have much time to play poker last night. Did another quick hit-n-run session while eating dinner. I won 6BBs and was happy to once again book a small win for the night. More importantly we went out and bought me a new car. Remember I was on life tilt when my other car got wrecked by someone else’s careless driving. After two months of sharing a car and dealing with Insurance company BS I finally got paid for my old car. We went out to a Toyota dealer and I purchased a 2009 Camry. So far I love the car, it’s so nicer then my 1998 Grand Am! It’s a little bigger so it will take a little getting used to. Have heard so many good things from loyal Toyota owners that I decided to take the plunge myself. I will let you know what I don’t like about the car after have had a chance to get used to it. As for poker tonight is Neil’s home game and I am looking to produce some donkey blood : -). Hope to have a good post about my crushing the game tomorrow. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Sit-N-Go Frustration

I had forgotten just how frustrating Sit-N-Gos can be when running bad at them. I played three Step ones last night with annoying results, two fifths and one forth. The first one I played thought I was a lock to move onto the next step. On the first hand I doubled up with A-J on a Jack high board. The board was all rags and I know that usually a donk or two gets crazy in the first orbit. When we were down to four I get it all in and lose a race. In the second Sit-N-Go we are down to five and I push all in, three bet pre-flop with Kings. As soon as I see his Ace-Jackass I know I am getting felted. Ace on the turn and I get knocked out as a 2 and a half to one favorite pre-flop once again. He calls off 90% of his stack with the Ace- Jackass, such a bad play. The last sit-n-go was just as frustrating. When down to five I get it all in with A-K against Jacks. Flop comes Ace-rag-rag so I am looking good to win this race. Of course Jack on the turn and IGH in fifth once again. Oh how I hate playing in Sit-n-Gos! Things went well in the Full Ring Limit HE Grind last night. I won 8BBs in an hours play. You won’t get rich grinding but can slowly build up a bankroll. The bad beats don’t hurt as much when playing in a live game. You can get them back a few hands later. Tomorrow night we are supposed to have a home game at my cousin Neil’s house. Should be a good time. Look for a post about it on Friday. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Online Poker Rant

Didn’t have much time to play Online last night. Did a quick hit-n-run sessions. Played for 15 minutes and won 10BBs. Won back more than half of what I lost playing all day on Sunday. I had Aces and Kings and they both held up. While playing on Sunday big pairs held up like 20% of the time! Then again that is what happens when 5 or more people see raised pots every hand. From what I saw last night my two tables were super tight. I prefer to play in this environment anyway. It’s a lot less lower variance and I am able to steal orphan pots post flop often. Only three days left in the month and I need to play a lot of hands on River Stars to become a Silver VIP. I don’t mind playing there this month being I did a maximum reload to take advantage of their 40% reload bonus. I yearn for the old days of bonus whoring from site to site! I used to move money around every week to earn the maximum bonuses on each site. Also it was easy and free to do so with PayPal and then with Neteller. Until the US government cock-blocked all of that. When will they get their act together, tax and regulate Online Poker already! They are leaving Billions of dollars on the table. They are not taking the “Moral High ground” by trying to block us from doing what we love in the privacy of our homes. It’s completely ridiculous to allow every form of gambling but try to block us online. No one ever said our government made any sense. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Stars Rebuy Tournament

Played Full Ring Limit HE all day yesterday on River Stars. Couldn’t get anything going, was down the whole day. Made a decent comeback to finish down 17BBs. Did have a small cash in the Stars $3.30 rebuy tournament. We had over 4300 maniacs in this fun tournament. Was my first time playing it, will be playing it as often I can. It was such a great value, the prize pool ended up over 53K! At the end of the rebuy period we were left with 3100, so everyone that was out was dead money in the pool. The average stack was 8K, I ended up with 18K. A few minutes before the rebuy period was over I got moved to a table with a maniac that would just push all in every hand, when he lost would do a double rebuy. The first 2 times I called him I had him crushed, 8-2 off against K-Q and 9-4 off against A-K. He sucked out on me both times. After this I doubled through him three times, his luck couldn’t last forever. This is how I acquired my stack. He spent $120 before the rebuy period was over, for a stack of 5K! What a complete donkey, busted 15 minutes after rebuy period ended. This wasn’t an isolated case either, at my other table there were many crazy plays made. That’s how the prize pool got so big from a $3 tournament. So I felt I played great, maintained my above average stack until we were down to 1000 players.(With 738 being paid.) At this point I dipped below average stack and kept dipping. When we were down to 50 from the money I had a critical decision to make. I brought it in for 3x the big blind with pocket Queens. A tight solid player right after me flat called, danger. We took a flop of 9-8-2 rainbow heads up. I bet 75% of the pot and he insta min-raised me. This was really bad I was left with 8K behind, enough to make the money.(Not enough to push him off his hand.) Did he flat me with Jacks or Kings? It was possible but didn’t think so. Felt more like he flopped a set of eights or nines. Either that or 8-9 suited or 10-J suited. I was only ahead of Jacks, 10-J, or a stone cold bluff. I went into the tank and eventually folded my hand. If I won I would have doubled up and had a nice stack. Instead I lived to fight another day and I cashed. Thing is I may have been able to go deep if I called and won. This hand will haunt me being I will never know if I made the right lay down. Think I did being after playing with this player for 30 more minutes I noticed he was totally solid. He always had the hand he was representing. I will never know if it was the right play. BTW I owe my deep run to my Cousin Ant for sweating my play Friday night and pointing out that I was playing too tight early in the tournament. I have adjusted my play and cashed in 2 out of 3 Mtts since he has told me this. Still chasing my big score. Ant hang in there you and I are both due a big score. I can feel it coming for the both of us! Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Online Treadmill Continues/Sit-N-Go Question

The Online Treadmill continues. Again I ran sick great at River Stars and sick bad at Full Tilt. This time I won enough to cover my loses at Full Tilt. Finished the night up 6BBs. Sit-n-Gos didn’t go well. I played in two of them and bubbled them both. Of course I pushed the best hand and got sucked out on in both as a 60-40 favorite. I need to have a big MTTs score really badly. I haven’t had a good one Online since winning a RAZZ tournament on River Stars a week before our WSOP trip. I am up this month in MTTs but it isn’t a substantial amount. Same thing with Sit-n-Gos am up but not a big number. Am up a nice number in live games but it’s just a long grind. Clearing Bonuses and rake back contribute a nice figure to the grind. Need a big score to get me excited to play again. May play in the 8:00 on Full Tilt tonight. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

P.S. – BTW no Home game report from last night, Neil’s game got cancelled, maybe next week. Reminder to all my readers to please click through on my Google Adsense banner, above this post. Even making money from this BLOG is a slow grind!

*****This an addendum to my original post. I just thought of a Sit-n-Go hand that really bothered me. Did I play this hand right? Please comment! We are down to 6 players in a turbo No Limit HE tournament. The blinds are 100-200 and I have 1200 left. Two players with medium stacks limp to me and I wake up with the all powerful pocket 2s. So I jam my 6x the big blind. The big blind, who has 1900 behind insta-calls me exactly like Hellmuth does when he thinks he has the nuts. Everyone else folds so we are heads up. The big blind has the all mighty A-3 of spades. He calls off 63% of his stack with these rags against a player who has played the whole Sit-N-Go totally tight. Of course he gets rewarded with an Ace on the turn. Why couldn’t I have a big Ace, which is the hand I would normally be jamming here like 80% of the time! My question for the readers is whose play was worse my jam with the pocket twos or his call with the Ace Rag sooted? I am very interested in getting other people’s opinions on this. Sit-n-Gos just frustrate me to no end. Thanks in advance for your comments.******

The Online Threadmill

Last nights play was odd to say the least. I played Full Limit Ring games on Full Tilt and River Stars. I was bizarre couldn’t win a pot on Full and couldn’t lose a pot on River Stars. I made 4 nut flushes on River Stars and got sick action on all of them. Also flopped quad sixes on a flop of 6-6-2 with two clubs. I checked and it get bet and raised back to me. I smooth call and check the turn, it gets bet and raised to me again. WOW what a wet dream of a hand, I decide to come out of the weeds and three bet. It gets capped, what an awesome hand. The river brings the much needed third club. I bet out and they both call me. I was against pocket twos and the nut flush. What a perfect set up hand for me. At the same time I am losing in unreal ways on Full Tilt. Pocket Aces go down to 4-5 off who defends from the big blind. Pocket Kings go down to pocket fives who turns a set, after I cap pre-flop. In another sucky hand I raise with pocket nines and get called in two places. Flop is 8-6-2 rainbow. They both check and I bet. Turn is a seven and it gets bet and raised before me. I insta-muck my pocket nines and they cap it. River is a King and it goes bet and call. Pocket Sevens against pocket Aces. The Aces played so bad it’s not funny. If he bets out on that flop I raise and shut out the pocket sevens. Oh well no need to tap on the fishbowl. So I made like 50BBs at Stars and lost 55BBs at Full Tilt. Another night on the Online treadmill. One good thing is I went 1 for 2 in cashing in Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Sit-N-Gos so my Battle of the Planets Race is still on. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Online Site Selection

I can never figure out where the best place to play will be Online. Hindsight is so 20/20! Last night I got my ass handed to me at Full Tilt, couldn’t win a pot playing in a Full Limit Ring Game. On Full lost 35BBs in less than an hour. At the same time I couldn’t lose a pot playing at the same level on River Stars. I won 30BBs there while losing on Full Tilt. So overall the night wasn’t that bad losing 5BBs. Just wish I would have stuck to Stars only : - ). Am still running great in SNGs on Stars this week. Played another Pot Limit Hi/Lo Omaha one and ripped it down. I have a really good shot at the Battle of the Planets Promotion this week. Great thing too that all the prize pools are double this week. Have said it before but will repeat myself, people do not know how to play Pot Limit Hi/Lo Omaha right now. Also it’s a fun game to play, getting tired of No Limit SNGs. There seems to be less dead money in the No Limit ones. Then again it’s the luck of the draw. I have played in a few where we lose 3 donkeys during the first level. Even in a turbo this is crazy, no need to go bust that fast. Should be playing at my Cousin Neil’s house tomorrow night. Will post about the crazy fun times on Friday. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Roll Rebuild

Last night I turned things around to positive on FullTilt. Now my roll is getting healthy again, won 15BBs in an hour. I so prefer to play during the week when players are saner. Don’t care what the books say I always do better at a tighter more predictable table. The weekend donkfests with 5 or more players seeing raised pots just don’t seem to work for me very often. Same thing has happened to me at the Borgata in Atlantic City. Problem is you need to make major adjustments to your game in these crazy ram-em jam-am type of games. Hands like A-K go way down in value in these type of games. Thing is I usually forget this and raise/re-raise with A-K. If you get a great flop like A-7-2 against 6 players you lose a big pot when someone calls you down with A-7off or A-2 sooted! I hate this type of game, it’s not poker. It feels like we are playing 7 card Bingo. Well on Sunday on FullTilt it wasn’t 7 card Bingo but it was pretty bad. Well I have gone off on a tangent. Last night things went well my top pair top kicker hands held up and I won nice pots. Tonight I may reload BoDog and try to rebuild my roll there. Need to play a lot for the rest of the month, I reloaded and now stand to clear a huge bonus but it’s only good til the end of the month. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Sunday Play is Bad

I am really starting to hate playing Online on Sundays. Some of the worst beatings I have taken have been on a Sunday. It's almost like everyone decides to splash around and play bad on Sunday. Yesterday I took a beating on Bodog, like I wrote about in the afternoon. On FullTilt things started out ok but then turned really bad. I am talking about being down 75BBs in two hours! At this point I locked it down and started to play ABC solid Poker. Things turned around in a major way, I ended down 12BBs on FullTilt for the day. Still a big losing day being the Bodog lose was 25BBs with my wife and I ending up busting my account. She decides to try out Bodog, in my account on Saturday. She kicks some ass playing short-handed and wins 42BBs. Then she can't sleep on Saturday night and decides to play some more. Takes a real beating, losing 80BBs. She flops a full house 3 times in two hours, only to lose to quads all three times! Then she loses with Aces and Kings in back to back hands. Realize this is a short-handed game so that makes it even worse. This chain of events puts her on tilt, at this point she wasn't down that much but then the tilt takes over and the chip spewage starts. Oh well she is now taking a much needed hiatus from online poker. Good news from yesterday's play is I did well in Sit-N-Gos. My new favorite type is Hi/Lo Pot Limit Omaha. I have been cashing in them at a 50% rate! Granted these are low limit ones on RiverStars but now I have a good start at the Battle of the Planets Promo. for the week. This month is still highly profitable for me. I am up in all Poker disciplines. Live play up a lot, MTTs up a decent amount, and Sit-n-Gos up a little. If I can finish up in all three it will be the first time in awhile that I pull off this triple play. In other news the first telivised WSOP event will be on tuesday night. I am so looking forward to the coverage this year. We were there while they were filming a few of the events so I pretty excited to see how they came out. Tonight there is a new WPT to watch on GSN also. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables.

Bodog ARG!!!

I am running so bad on Bodog! I lost 50BBs this morning at short-handed Limit HE. In only 1 and 1/2 hours. Players call on the flop with no hand and no draw. Of course they catch runner runner frequently. I havn't seen such poor play since the beginning days of PartyPoker. Need to adjust to this type of game. I kept calling river bets with top pair only to be showed a gutshot straight caught on the river or 2 rag pairs. Meanwhile I am crushing the full table Limit HE games on FullTilt and doing well on RiverStars. I will be at it more this morning. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tny

Neil's Home Game

Played two Sit-N-Gos at my cousin Neil's house last night. These are hopefully going to become a regular weekly game. Always a good time playing at his house. I play there strictly for the entertainment value. I am just jinxed at his house. Every week I get my money in with the best hand and loss anyway. Last night I open push for 6 times the Big blind, granted with a short stack. I have A-K and the big blind calls with the almighty J-4 sooted! I knew I was dead as soon as he called. He flops a four and then turns a flush for good measure. I had the re-suck out to the club flush draw which of course I don't catch. So I go out in 5th place in this one. In the second Sit-N-Go we have 12 players and I catch exactly no cards until we are down to 7 players, with 3 getting paid. Finally I catch A-K and open push, am happy with no callers so I get some chips. Then I go card dead again and we are down to 5 players. I get dealt A-9 sooted and open push my very short stack in for 2X the big blind. My brother makes the correct call, with any two cards in this spot. He has K-10 off and I state that I am going home being my hand will never hold up against that. No suspense at all when the first card off the deck is the K of spades. I can't re-suck out and IGH in 5th, live poker is so f****n rigged! BTw want to plug my Cousin Neil's pizzaria. If you are ever in Clifton, NJ it's on Harding ave off of Main ave. It's named Sal's Pizzaria, after his father. They have awesome pizza and the best chicken parm. around. Look for a Borgata trip report on Sunday. That's it for today. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Losing and Happy About it

Yesterday I Finally had a losing night. Never been so happy to lose at poker. Why you ask? I knew was due for a loss so feel have gotten it out of the way now. Plus I took some terrible beats and still only ended down 9BBs. Also got trapped with a few nut flush draws that I was getting the right odds to draw to. Now that I have my varaince day out of the way tonight I will go back to crushing the tables again. Sounds like a good plan. Shout out to my cousin Ant(ShipThis), stay on the system. Grind out the SNGs to build your bankroll. I am doing the same, grinding out at the Limit HE tables to build mine up also. It's looking good for the Borgata on Saturday. Also a home game at cousin's Neils on thursday night. I should have a lot of new things to post about after Saturday. Look for a home game post and a Borgata trip post soon. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Another Good Night

Nothing much exciting for me to write about Poker wise. I played another session, at my new Limit HE level and just crushed it again. Within 30 minutes I was up 25BBs. So I decided to play the rest of the night at my lower level, to protect my win. Something funny happened, got my ass kicked at the lower level. It felt like a total Bingo mentality playing one level lower. Double as many people seeing the flop. Big pairs getting drawn out on over and over again. Nut flush draws not coming in, blah, blah, blah. No big deal I gave back about a third of my earlier gain. Don't think I will try this experiment again. Should just stick with what is working. Onto the other big news, the WSOP final table. It really sucks that Tiffany Michelle didn't make the final nine! She would have been so good for Poker. Listen to her interview by Maria Ho, she is so articulate and down to earth. Also the fact that she is young and attractive isn't a bad thing for poker's image either! Don't know much about the nine that have made it but I am sure we will learn about them before November. Just wish a big name player would have made it. Oh well it is the World Series of minefields you know, LOL. Speaking of minefields we may give the Borgata Saturday tournament a go this weekend. It's their $340, 10K starting chip, 30 minute blinds, No Limit donkfest. Please let my dodge the BS just one time. Haven't cashed in a live casino No Limit tournament in over a year, am due for a score. Please Poker gods let it be my day.

Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Running Good

Wow did I run good yesterday. I moved up one level in stakes of Limit HE and the players seemed even worse! Usually when I move up I get spanked bad and wind up moving down after a few days of bankroll erosion. Not this time I now have three winning sessions in a row at the higher level. Now that my bankroll is larger I will make this new level my regular level. Good thing to is that I will earn FullTilt points/rakeback faster at this level. I have built up a ton of FTPs and Ironman Bonus metals already. Almost have enough to get myself a 19 inch Monitor. Maybe will save up my points to get the 22 inch one! With low resolution can probably get 8 screens with no overlap. Right now I can fit 4 with no overlap. Usually I put 2 on my wife's pc also. Anyway back to the Poker, yesterday people were playing so bad. It felt like the old days of PartyPoker, but without the bad beats. In 2 hours time I got Aces twice, Kings twice, and Queens once. They all held up except I lost a big pot with Kings once. I won over 40BBs in 2 hours time. So I closed up for the day and went for a walk in the park with my wife and dog. So winning is good for my bankroll and health also : - ). I will be at it again tonight. BTW - Tiffany Michelle is the last woman standing in the WSOP Main Event right now. They are down to 27, would love to see her make the last 9. Go Tiffany!! Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Weekend Getaway

Didn't play much poker this weekend at all. Went down to the Jersey Shore for some R and R. We did a lot of fishing and crabbing. Didn't catch any fish but caught a lot of Blue Clawed Crabs. My mother cooked them up in a wine sauce. Damn tasty, better than most restaurants! Been playing for an hour since I got back. Went on a nice Limit HE rush, up around 25BBs. Happy Sunday to everyone. Turning it Around Fast

The downturn was short lived, lost 2 nights in a row. Last night I was back to my winning ways. I won 25BBs in two hours. Also played a Pot Limit Hi/Lo Omaha Sit-n-Go on River Stars. Let me tell you these are super soft on Stars right now. People have no clue how to play this game. I am not an expert but it seems pretty obvious not to push the nut low with no high when you may get quartered. Last night I made a ton of chips early from this very situation. I had A-2 for nut low and top 2 pairs. It was pot raised and re-raised before it got back to me on the river. Not only are these soft but they are a lot of fun to play in. It gets old and boring sometimes playing No Limit Sit-n-Gos. I eventally got heads up last night. Lost a huge coin flip and took 2nd. There is even more luck heads up in these than in No Limit. So this week I have slowly worked my way back into Sit-N-Gos by cashing in 3 of 4. Played in 2 no limit, 1 Horse, and a Pot Limit Hi/Lo Omaha. I pride myself in the fact that I can play all the popular variations of Poker well. Tonight I will grind out some more full ring games of Limit HE, wish me luck. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables.

All Good Things Must Come to an End

The streak is over! Of course as soon as I write about running goot the bad beat switch gets pulled on me. Not on Full Tilt being I crushed the limit games again last night. I got my ass handed to me playing a full ring game on BoDog. I flopped a set twice only to lose to monster suck out hands. Once of them was with pocket tens on a flop of K-10-4 rainbow. We capped the flop heads up. An Ace feel on the turn and we capped it once again. On the river a another scary Ace fell but I bet out like a man. He insta-raised me and I knew the bad news right away. His A-K caught perfect perfect to crack my set of tens. The other set I lost with was pocket fours that I limped in with from late position. Flop came with 4-x-x with 2 hearts. I didn't slow play, raised the initial bettor right away. Didn't matter the donkey behind me called 2 bets cold with 6-7 of hearts, than called 2 more bets when it got back to him. The third heart came on the turn and I couldn't re-suck out so lost another huge pot there. Overall I am happy with my play, started the night out playing a little too lose. Later on I tightened up and made a huge comeback. I was down 40BBs at one time but ended only down 7, a moral victory. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Running Great Online

The streak has continued playing Online last night. I am running so good in full Limit HE games accross all the sites I play on. It seems I am running best on Full Tilt. To me the play has gotten much worse in the last few months. Maybe all the good players have jumped ship to No Limit leaving the donks to fight it out at the Limit tables. Here is a hand that I won last night that in the past I wouldn't have. In the big blind I defend with J-10 of clubs. The flop comes down K-K-J and I check to the raiser who c-bets. I call and the turn is an off suit 10, again I check. The raiser bets and I call with my 2 pairs. The river is a six which completes a flush on the board. I once again check and he bets. Make the crying call to be shown what? He has pocket sevens which just can't be good in this spot. On the turn a straight comes, on the river a flush comes. What is he betting on the river? Only hand he beats is if I am chasing and calling with Ace high. In the past I would always be showed either a King, A-J, or a flush in this spot. If I raise at any point in this hand he probably gets away from the sevens. Felt I got a lot of value out of my 2 pairs, also if I was beat would have lost the minimum. To me this is a perfect example of me being, "either way ahead or way behind". I will continue my love for multi-tabling full Limit ring games tonight. BTW I made 32BBs last night in less than 2 hours. A pretty good earn rate, if I do saw so myself. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Running Good Online

Since coming back from Vegas I have been running so good Online! My ring game limit HE game has been on fire. I have won 8 out of 9 days. Not small wins either I am talking about at least 10BBs every single night. It feels like something has clicked in my full table game. Had a great run playing live in Vegas also, 8 straight days without a single losing session. If I string the two together have 16 winning days out of 17! Thing is the break from playing online feels like it has done me some good. Also been running well in SNGs and MTTs also. Not as well as live play but profitable anyway. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Borgata Bad Play

This is not a bad beat post. It's just an example of how bad the play was on Friday in the 75K $340 No Limit tournament at the Borgata. This hand took place at the end of level 2 with the blinds at 50-100. I started the hand with around 6800 chips behind. The under the gun player, who was a total loose passive idiot limps, he has about 25K chips, having busted 2 people already! Than 4 more people limp behind him and I look down at pocket tens. My image was that I was a tight super agressive player, being I had re-raised a few times post flop. So I decided to make it 700 to go, basically a squeeze player with cards to back it up. Everyone folds back to the under the gun limper, who insta-calls. To me it looked like he had a medium sized pair or a decent Ace. Everyone else folds and we see a flop of J-10-8 rainbow. Gin for me, so I thought. So he leads out for 1000 about half the pot. I thought about the best way to get all my money in the pot, had seen him make some weak calls on a draw already. I decided to just shove hoping for a call. In called me in Hellmuth like fashion, couldn't get his money in fast enough. So my flopped set of tens was against what?? Of course he has the all mighty powerful Q-9 off! WTF limp under the gun and than call a 7x raise with that cheese! Of course I don't improve and I got knocked out the fastest I have ever in a Borgata $340 tournament! This play was just so poor on so many levels. As usual bad play gets rewarded, play cheese and flop a straight. Tomorrow I will post about the bad play at the $1-2 No Limit tables. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Borgata Friday 75K Tournament

On the forth of July I played in the Borgata 75K No Limit tournament. I can't wait to post about the sick bad horrible play in it! If I didn't know any better I would have thought I was playing in a $5.50 No Limit tournament on Party Poker! This was a $340 deep stacked nicely structured tournament. I don't know if the fact that it was on a holiday made the play an worse than normal. First prize was over 32K, would have loved to cash in it. Too late tonight to write about any hands, look for a post tomorrow. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony
