WSOP Razz $2500 Day 1 Report

My wife and I bought into the WSOP $2500 Razz event at the same time and got seated at the same table. It didn’t seem like the WSOP employs very good random seating but it is what it is. We debated asking the floor for a seat change but decided as long as we told the table we were married and played each other fairly there wouldn’t be a problem with it. It turns out no one had an issue with us being at the same table and we didn’t get involved with each other much over the course of day one. We had an interesting first table with, Kirk Morrison, Cindy Violette, Chris Bjorin, and Dan Hemiller. Kirk Morrison was the nicest guy; we had a lot of fun playing with him. Cindy Violette was real nice and is a great stud player! She got knocked out late in the day and was replaced by the actress Jennifer Tilly. She turns out to be down to earth super nice also. We were all joking around at this table and 2 hours before it was over the drinks started to flow big time. As for the Poker I had one hand where I made a really daring bluff with a J High low hand against a weak tight amateur. He went into the tank for 5 minutes until Cindy and Kirk both had the clock called on him. He eventually folded for a $200 bet on the river into an $1800 pot! He swears he folded a smooth 9 with an Ace and a 2. If he was telling the truth, which I believe he was, I really pulled off a great bluff in a hard to bluff limit game. My wife knows me so well she told me based on my body language I didn’t want a call, which of course was right. We both survived to play day 2, she had 24K which was above average and I had 14K which put me as a short stack. We got back to the Golden Nugget at 4:30am and were both exhausted from the day of Razz. Look for more posts about this Tournament tomorrow. Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Razz Cash!

My wife knocked out Daniel Negreanu, she felt guilty about it but I felt it was thrilling. She felt bad being Ivey won a braclet the night before and Daniel needs to win one otherwise he owes Ivey a lot of money! More details to follow. Tony

Running Bad.

Just in time for the WSOP I am on a sick downturn. I only cashed in 1 mtt out 25 this weekend! Just failed to cash in 3 straight Double or Nothing Sit-N-Gos, which for me is unheard of. Hope I get all this run bad out of me before I go to Vegas! On a good note I am running great in cash games but it's not enough to cover my Tournament loses, not even close. 5 more days until Vegas for us! Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Bad Online MTT Play

No Limit SNGs and MTTs are going terrible for me lately. It seems people call me with way the worst of it yet get there and beat me anyway. Case in point is this hand from a 6-max MTT yesterday. (Warning, Warning a bead beat story is about to be told, if you have small children or are overly sensitive please leave the room.) BTW this is a true hand; the hole cards are close to exactly what happened. We are both deep with the blinds at 100-200 with a 25 Ante. I start the hand with 12K and he starts with 9.5K. I bring it in for 3x under the gun with pocket Aces. The villain calls on the button and we see a flop of 8-4-2 rainbow, pretty much a very dry flop. I C-bet for ½ of the pot and he snap calls me. Being he’s a total lagtard figured he had a hand like 3-5 or 5-6 suited. The turn brings a Jack and I c-bet again for close to 2/3 the pot. At this point I have around 8K left in my stack. He snap calls me again so I am putting him on some kind of a goofy draw. The river brings a harmless looking 7 and I think there is no way I am getting any value out of my Aces in this spot so I check. He snap shoves on me which doesn’t make any sense to me. I can fold and have 8K left or I can call his 5.5K shove and have a chance for a huge stack going deep in the MTT. I go into the tank and decide to call his shove. What does he have you think? Of course he has the nuts with 9-10 off. Remember back to the flop it was 8-4-2, so he called my flop bet with no pair, no draw! This kind of BS has been happening to me with too much regularity lately. Trust me he wasn’t floating me on the flop to take it away later. This was a low limit MTT and villain wasn’t even a level 1 thinker. Looking back on the hand I should have folded to his river shove. Is this results oriented thinking or smart conservative play? Reason I should have folded is that this player was playing any 2 random cards and could easily have me beat by any crappy 2 pair type of hand. I had a nice stack in this one all the way from level 1 of this large field MTT. We had started with 6000 players and were down to around 900, with around 700 finishing in the money. I could have coasted into the money within the next 15 mins. but wanted to true for a very large stack. This style never works for me, that is trying to build up a large stack. What works for me is lagging into the money and than trying to build up me chips. In the last few weeks I have tried to be more aggressive and have nothing but a ton of close to the money finishes to show for it. Am I being short-term results oriented or am I on to something in todays minefield type donkaments? Thanks for reading and good luck at the tables. Tony

Sit-N-Gos More Difficult

Is it me or have Sit-N-Gos gotten really harder in the last few weeks? I am talking about $5.50 and $11 ones, not the real expensive ones. The mid to higher stakes have been hard for awhile now. Even my bread and butter ones, Double or Nothings have been tough for me lately. Maybe it's just a big down swing? I am losing more than my fair share of flips all in, around 80% losers lately. Maybe I am do for some run good time now, I hope. Less than 3 weeks left until Vegas, can't wait to go. I have been brushing up on tournament RAZZ stratergy for a awhile now. Really feel like this could be my year! Vegas baby here I come. Tony
