Ebook Sneak Peek

Here is another random, very rough draft, of the Ebook I am almost done writing.  Of  course than the hard part of editing has to be done.  Making slow progress.  Enjoy

So Michelle and I basically avoided each other at the table.   I didn’t want to take her money and I thought she felt the same way about me.  I was trying to figure out if she had the hand’s she was representing or not.  This is my biggest strength in Poker being able to figure out what the other players have.  Poker is a game of incomplete information and if you can get a good idea what cards your opponents have you are more than half way to beating them in a consistent basis.  For the first time we both had a good enough hand to be in the pot together, was basically unavoidable.  She raised from early position, which means she will be at a disadvantage the whole hand being she has to act before the other players on every betting round.  I look down at 2 Kings, which is the 2nd best hand in Holdem to start with.  I don’t mess around so I raise 3 times more money than Michelle did to basically get everyone else to fold.  This move is the right one being big pairs have more chance of holding up or winning if only a few other players are in the pot.   The first 3 community cards are turned over, known as the flop.  They are A-J-3 all different suites, not a very good flop for Kings being if Michelle has an Ace my 2 Kings are crushed.  Michelle checked to me and looked un-interested in winning the pot.  This usually indicates the other player has missed the flop and will hold to any bet.  So I bet half the pot which is a standard move being I took control of the betting by re-raising pre-flop.  She thinks for a minute and calls my bet.  This it suspicious, really feels like she has an Ace and is trying to trap me to commit more of my chips into the pot.  A 7 of hearts comes next putting 2 hearts on the board and she checks again.   So I put a small bet of one third the pot out there to she how she reacts.  Michelle now does what many people hate to happen to them at the table she check-raises me for all my chips.   I think about it for a long time and really feel she has a strong hand.  After all I am a detective and make my living from knowing if people are lying or not.  She is giving off feelings of strength so I fold my hand face up for everyone to see.  The pot is pushed to Michelle and before the dealer takes her cards she shows the table a pair of fives.  She bluffed me off a really big pot, how did she know I would fold the better hand?  She apologized for bluffing me and making me look weak to the table.  Told her it’s all part of the game and no offense taken.  The fact that she read me so well and tricked me would be stored up in the back of my head for the future

Borgata Trip Report

It's been a long time since I wrote a post about a live Poker session from the Borgata in Atlantic City.  Yesterday, memorial day weekend, the Borgata Poker Room was packed.  It was mostly, as expected, with No Limit Holdem games.   There were low limit games going, $2-4 and $3-6 but only a few and long lists to get on them.  I played in a $3-6 game which was anything but Poker.  It was more like playing Bingo than Poker.  Over the 4 fours we played I had Aces once and Kings four times!   Only one with the Kings once. So it was a very bad session for me!  Lost 20 BBs over this time.  Not too strange variance wise but annoying anyway.  If I could have played a few more hours am sure would have won it back.  Later on or tomorrow I will post about some memorable hands.  Happy Memorial Day Weekend all.  Tony

Sick Day

I'm at home for the second day in a row sick.  Got a fever and feel dizzy.  Started out as stomach problems and got worse.  Hope I can go back to work tomorrow.  On the bright side we are dog sitting for my wife's friend.  I will post a picture of her later on.  Good luck at the tables.  Tony

Ebook Peek

I'm making great progress on my Ebook, "Trouble in Atlantic City". Got a rough draft of 50K words. Am winding the story down to it's conclusion. Than the hard part starts proofing and re-writing. Don't know how long it will take from this point but hope to have it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble within 3 months. For now enjoy this chapter. Tony

Welcome to Atlantic City, faded seaside resort city and east coast Vegas, want to be. Playground to every jet setter, high roller, high stakes Poker playing smuck, sleazebag and little old grey haired lady trying to get a piece of the gamblers dream to make that one big score. This is my territory; my name is Frank Vagola, Atlantic City P.I. I’m an ex-cop from the New York suburbs of Ridgefield Park New Jersey. After putting in my 20 years of service to qualify for a full pension I retired from the police force. Things were getting too corrupt for my liking anyway. Also New Jersey Policies were starting to get to me. Over time we public servants have lost respect from the public we are paid to serve. Being there have been many scandals involving crooked cops I see why this is. These days I spend my time in private practice as a private investigator, have an office above my garage in a small house I rent in Absecon New Jersey. It’s not glamorous but it pays the bills and keeps me out/in trouble on a daily basis. Mostly spend my times following cheating spouses around to motels alone the major highways of New Jersey. Speaking of which I have lived in my whole life and intend on dying here too.

Online Poker

The Limit games, if you can find them, online are really good these days.  I've been playing the micro-stakes at Carbon Poker, full ring and short-handed and the action has been fast and furious.  Sure the variety of games doesn't match FullTilt or Poker Stars but beggars can't be choosers.  Especially for us who live in the U.S.A.  We take the games we can get these days.  As for Cake Poker I've completely given up on them.  I spend a year building up a decent roll there and I initiated a withdrawal in January and still don't have my money!  I've emailed them repeatedly with not luck yet.  I have to hope they don't pull a FullTilt/Absolute/UltimateBet on me and just disappear with my money.  Oh well these are troubled times us U.S.A. Online Poker players live in.   Good luck at the tables.  Tony

Bad Storm

We had a really harsh thunder storm Friday.  As a result I haven't had phone or Internet service for 2 days.  Let me tell you we have grown dependent on Internet service daily!   As for the phone we both have cells so it wasn't that bad.  Ended up going to Barnes and Noble the last 2 days to check email and do our normal Internet stuff.  Now I can get some Online Poker fix today.  Happy Sunday and thanks for reading.  Tony

Birthday Post

Today is my Birthday, a day I usually hate.  To me birthdays are so depressing, just one year closer to death.  I think I figured out my problem on my birthday, always worked on it!  Today I took off from work and am doing a "Ferris Buller's day off".  A reference to the famous cult movie I love so much.  So far I feel much better on this birthday.  To all my loyal readers enjoy this day, your author's birthday.  Thanks for reading and have a great day.
