Borgata Trip Report
Our Borgata trip was a big success this weekend. I won 35 BBs in around 7 hours of play of $10-20. Had some really crazy hands, seamed to avoid bad beats most of the weekend. Biggest problem I had was flopping the nut flush draw. I flopped a four flush 15 times, with an Ace and only hit 1 flush. These pots were all huge! If I got there one third of the time my weekend would have really been profitable. Here is an example of a hand where my read was perfect but I still had to get lucky to win. A passive new player brought it in for a raise under the gun.(New as in probably doesn’t play Casino poker too often, very predictable.) I would think he would have to have A-K,A-Q, AA, KK, QQ, or JJ to do this. I have pocket threes, a hand I would normally fold in this situation, but I cold called the raise. Figured if he didn’t have a pocket pair I would take the pot down on the flop. We see the flop heads up, Q-10-3 all clubs. He leads out, I raise, he three bets, and I four bet. At this point I know he has Aces or Kings with a club. The turn brings a club and he checks so I go with my read and check behind. He looks upset at this check by me. (Which tells me he does have the flush.) The board pairs the ten on the river. He leads out and I insta-raise with my full house. He calls and before he turns over his cards I say I have a full house and you have pocket Kings with the King of clubs right? The table got real quiet as he showed everyone his cards. I sucked out on the flop, he sucked out on the turn, and I re-sucked out on the river. Holdem is funny like that sometimes. I got a lot of respect in this game from then on. They were amazed that I knew exactly what he had. The clues were all there for me to figure out. The thing that gave away the fact that he had Kings and not Aces is that the big blind thought about calling for 2 minutes before folding. I just knew he had a weak Ace that he was considering calling with. Good luck at the tables. Tony
